FIND 4-H WHERE YOU LIVE

Working with youth in 2nd through 4th grade can be a great adventure! There are a few things to remember so everyone will enjoy the journey.
graphics Children in this grade range are by definition, very active. Periods where children must remain quiet and/or still should be short.
graphics In addition to being active, children?s interests change quickly. Provide the children with a wide variety of experiences.
graphics These children enjoy working in groups. Keep in mind, however, that girls are happier working with girls, and boys are happiest working with boys.
graphics The children are more likely to succeed if activities are broken down into a series of tasks, or steps. Children this age may feel overwhelmed if asked to do or remember too much at one time.
graphics Guidance is still very important with this group. Remember, however, that guidance does not mean doing everything for a child. Children learn best from their own experiences!
graphics Children in these grades need lots and lots of praise. Each child needs to feel that he or she successfully accomplished the task at hand. Always find something positive to say about each child?s work.
graphics Children are curious and love to explore and try out new things. Take advantage of this to introduce new activities project areas.
