Finding Forests

For 4-H Foresters, it’s important to know where the forests in your state are located. By knowing the location of forests you will know the region where forest industries are likely to be located and it will help you plan field trips for your group to those forests.

How can you locate your state’s parks and forests? Look on a road map of your state. You can get one from your state’s Department of Transportation or you can look in a road atlas. These maps usually include state parks, forests and National Forests on them.

If you are still having difficulty, try an Internet search using the words “(your state’s name) state forests”. That search will get you to your state forests and parks on the web. The following list is a few state park listings as an example.

Ohio State Forests

Iowa State Forests

Alaska’s State Forests

Virginia State Forests

Minnesota State Forests

Montana State Parks

If you still have difficulty contact your local State Forestry Agency office or your state’s forestry association. The state forestry agency (such as the Department of Natural Resources – DNR) will be located in your phone book under “State Government” or the name of the agency.

Have fun finding your state’s forests.
