Forest Ownership
Who owns the forests in the United States? The forestlands are owned by many different kinds of people and organizations. Public government agencies own forestlands as do forest industry companies. Private individuals and their families, however, own most forestland in the United States.
These private owners have formed many forestry associations that help them communicate and manage their forests. Most owners need access to supplies and services to manage and maintain their lands. These associations provide a vehicle for fulfilling these needs and serve as the organizational structure for meetings and information exchange.
Visit a few of the forest owners’ association websites and learn how much satisfaction people get from managing their forests. Typically they also are very supportive of youth forestry activities and education. Find an association near you and contact them yourself.
