Sleeping with a Masterpiece
|
Create a pillow using a printed image of a favorite work of art. Print your favorite computer masterpiece off the internet on
to fabric. Or print one of your own original favorites from a paint program,
such as Kid Pix. You can enjoy a work of art in many different forms besides
framed and hanging in a museum. Today artists enjoy making things out of copies
from the masters. And while a copy is always different from the original,
artists can paint it on all sorts of surfaces from chairs to milk cans to
fabric. In this activity, you will print an image on fabric, decorate it, then,
if you like, make it into a pillow.
Copyright laws
protect the work of artists from commercial use unknown to the artists. You may
print a copy of a masterpiece for your own use. However, if you decided to sell
pillows with the masterpiece printed on them, you would need to get written
permission from the artist or the institution that owns the piece.

Using fabric decorating colors or permanent
markers, add to the image or create a border around it. Sew on beads, cord,
and decorative stitches.
