Project Overview - Learner Outcomes

Youth will develop several important life skills through involvement in fun and challenging small engines-related learning experiences.

  1. Classifying engines and lawn and garden equipment. Student writing with a pencil in her hand.

  2. Communicating through written and oral methods using small engine operation, maintenance, and assembly.

  3. Comparing and measuring engine part dimensions, engine size, mowed grass quality, and engine performance.

  4. Decision making about purchasing engine parts, tools, and equipment and starting a business.

  5. Locating and using resources such as operator’s manual, repair manual, technical manual, rules and regulations, and public press (regarding trends).

  6. Marketable skills including engine repair, maintenance, disassembly, and selection.

  7. Planning and organizing tours, service projects, and engine preparation for storage and operation.

  8. Problem solving by using sound information to evaluate engine performance and troubleshooting a malfunctioning engine.

  9. Safety through safety labels, proper clothing, and proper machine operation.
