National Standards for Art Education

Developed by the Consortium of National Arts Education Associations under guidance of the National Committee for Standards in the Arts through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, 1994.

Visual Arts Content Standards provide program goals for all grade levels:

Ø      Understanding and applying media, techniques, and processes

Ø      Using knowledge of structures and functions

Ø      Choosing and evaluating a range of subject matter, symbols, and ideas

Ø      Understanding the visual arts in relation to history and culture

Ø      Reflecting upon and assessing the characteristics and merits of their work and the work of others

Ø      Making connections between visual arts and other disciplines
